João Desport was born in Gondomar, Portugal, in 1962. He earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1986 from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto and obtained the title of general practitioner after completing his General Internship at the General Hospital of Santo António in the same city.
He also graduated in Dental Medicine, in 1990, from the Faculty of Dental Medicine of Porto.
Among the numerous postgraduate courses and training he has undertaken, the following stand out: diploma in "implant dentistry" (university of Gothenburg / university of Barcelona), post-graduate in "predictable aesthetic and longevity with bonded porcelain restorations" (San Francisco, USA), and post-graduation in "function and dysfunction of the masticatory organ" (Viesid in Bucharest, Romania).
He was a founding member of the Portuguese Society of Aesthetic Dentistry and a member of the scientific committee of the Portuguese Dental Association from 2010 to 2020.
Together with colleagues Hugo Costa Lapa and João Fonseca, he founded the Biomimetic Dentistry Portugal (BDP) group in 2012 and has been a lecturer at CESPU in the Postgraduate program in Advanced Biomimetic Oral Rehabilitation since then.
He began his career as a dentist in 1990 at the clinic founded by his father, who was a stomatologist and full professor at the Faculty of Dental Medicine of Porto, where he simultaneously assisted in his consultations. In 2009, he became the owner of the clinic, where he now works exclusively, focusing on complex aesthetic oral rehabilitation, ceramic veneers, implantology, and periodontology.
